As an Instructional Assistant in the Special Education Resource program for Grades 5-6, you will serve as a vital support to certified teachers, helping to meet the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities. Working under the general supervision of the Principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher, your role is essential to the implementation of classroom programs, including self-help skills, behavior management, and targeted instruction.
Your day will be dynamic and varied, blending direct student support with classroom management. You will assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays, and help administer and score objective testing instruments. A significant portion of your time will be spent conducting instructional exercises assigned by the teacher, working with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning.
Beyond the classroom, you will help maintain a neat and orderly environment, manage equipment inventory, and assist with administrative records. You will also supervise students throughout the school day, including during lunch, bus duty, and playground activities. Flexibility is key, as you may need to provide orientation to substitute teachers, participate in faculty meetings, and adapt quickly to changing routines or situations.
This position requires maintaining professional interactions with staff, parents, the community, and visitors. You will work in an environment that demands emotional control under stress, the ability to withstand pressure, and a respectful, courteous demeanor toward peers. The role involves regular travel to multiple work locations within the district and may occasionally require prolonged or irregular hours to meet deadlines and support student needs.
College Station ISD is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment. The district does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age in its programs and activities.
