About the Team

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Delivery & Operations Division – Region 2 is dedicated to providing a safe and reliable multimodal transportation system that connects people and helps Oregon's communities and economy thrive. Our Highway Maintenance crew in McMinnville is a hardworking team committed to keeping Oregon's roads, highways, bridges, and structures safe for travelers.

We encourage people from all backgrounds and abilities to apply. ODOT is an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer that does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, or any other class protected by state or federal laws.

About the Role

As a Highway Maintenance Specialist, you will be the frontline defender of Oregon's infrastructure. Your mission is to operate the equipment necessary to maintain and repair roadways while assisting with emergency cleanup and traffic control following storms, spills, and incidents. This role is vital for ensuring that our roads remain passable and safe under all conditions.

A day in your life will involve operating a variety of heavy and light equipment to maintain surfaces, clear debris, and manage roadside vegetation. You will perform minor surface repairs, maintain drainage systems, and care for wooded areas. The role demands physical resilience, as you will work in all weather conditions, on rough terrain, and potentially at extreme heights. You may also be called upon after hours, on weekends, and holidays to respond to weather-related emergencies or other urgent situations.

Hiring Process & Application Instructions

Before applying, please visit the applicant information website to learn more about our process. If you are a current State of Oregon employee, you must apply through your employee Workday profile.

To apply, complete the following steps:

  1. Submit Application: Fill out the application or attach a resume. Your submitted experience fields or attached resume must include dates (MM/YYYY) for each employer. If you need help with the experience fields, contact the recruiter under the 'Need help?' section.
  2. Complete Questionnaire: Answer the checkbox-style questions before submitting your application.
  3. Post-Submission Tasks: After submitting, you will be prompted to respond to the public records request authorization and gender identity questionnaire. If you are a current State of Oregon employee, these tasks will appear in your Workday inbox.
  4. Veteran Preference: If you are a veteran or Oregon National Guard servicemember, a task to upload your documents will become available after submission. For privacy reasons, do not attach these documents to the main application or combine them with other attachments.

Need Help? For questions, call 503-586-6863 or email ODOTRecruitmentNH@odot.oregon.gov.
