The Health Unit Technician serves as a vital bridge between clinical staff, patients, and the flow of information within the Emergency Department. This role functions as a trained auxiliary staff member under the direction of professional nurses, ensuring the ED operates smoothly by managing clerical support and coordinating patient care logistics.
You will be the first point of contact for incoming emergency medical transport teams, relaying critical radio communications to the medical staff. Your day involves monitoring patient tracking boards, entering orders into the electronic medical record, and collaborating with ancillary departments like Lab and Radiology to optimize patient flow. From coordinating patient transfers and follow-up appointments to maintaining a safe, orderly environment and managing supplies, you play a key part in the team's ability to deliver quality, timely care.
This is a 0.50 FTE position (40 hours per pay period) based in the Emergency Department. The schedule covers nights, with shifts running between 7 pm and 7 am. The role requires availability for every third weekend and every third holiday.
