The Early Childhood Department at Grand Street is dedicated to fostering the health and well-being of young children in Brooklyn. Our mission is to ensure every child has access to comprehensive health and nutrition services that support their development and learning. We operate across multiple sites in Sunset Park, Bed-Stuy, and Bushwick, building strong community partnerships to serve families with diverse needs.
The Health and Nutrition Specialist serves as a vital resource for staff and families, bridging the gap between health policy and daily practice. Working under the direct supervision of the Health Nutrition Coordinator, this role is essential for maintaining compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and DOHMH Article 47 while ensuring the safety and health of all participants.
In this position, you will manage the program's health and nutrition activities, from tracking individual child health records to collaborating with nutritionist consultants on personalized family plans. A key part of your day involves traveling between Brooklyn sites to monitor health recommendations, coordinate with nurse interns, and ensure that teachers and site directors are informed of any special health needs. You will also act as a liaison, linking families with appropriate community agencies and resources to eliminate gaps in medical, dental, vision, and hearing services.
To apply, please submit a resume and a thoughtful cover letter outlining how your skills and experience meet the qualifications of the position. If selected for an interview, we will request three professional references, with at least two coming from former supervisors.
Applications are accepted exclusively through our online career center. Please note that job offers are contingent upon the successful completion of all required clearances, including fingerprint screening and registry checks.
Grand Street is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, religion, or other protected characteristics.
