About General Proximity
General Proximity is a seed-stage startup pioneering the next generation of induced proximity medicines (IPMs). Our mission is to solve a long-standing challenge in drug discovery: developing molecules capable of modulating difficult or "undruggable" targets. While the most common mechanism for FDA-approved drugs is inhibition, many disease-causing proteins require different perturbation types that remain unrealized.
Our OmniTAC drug discovery engine furnishes bifunctional molecules that co-opt existing cellular machinery to modify drug targets, rather than relying on direct modulation by the drug. Historically, technologies that allow scientists to push new buttons in biology have been incredibly fertile fields for discovering new medicines, and our platform holds the same promise to overcome therapeutic challenges that have remained unapproachable for decades.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circleLead computational chemistry and molecular design for small-molecule drug discovery programs from hit identification through candidate nomination
- check_circleApply structure-based and ligand-based design approaches including docking, molecular dynamics, QSAR, and free-energy methods to guide compound design
- check_circleBuild and maintain scalable cheminformatics infrastructure for compound registration, SAR analysis, library design, and project decision-making
- check_circleImplement user-friendly AI/ML-enabled molecular design tools including generative chemistry and predictive models for the DMTA cycle
- check_circleRepresent computational chemistry in portfolio reviews, investor diligence, and scientific advisory board meetings
- check_circlePartner with medicinal chemists to interpret SAR, optimize potency and ADME/PK properties, and assess synthetic feasibility
- check_circleDefine computational chemistry strategy, establish data quality best practices, and manage external collaborations with CROs and vendors
Requirements
- verifiedPhD in Computational Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Chemical Physics, Biophysics, Cheminformatics, Physical Organic Chemistry, or related discipline
- verifiedMinimum 15 years of relevant experience in pharma, biotech, or drug discovery
- verifiedDeep expertise in structure-based and ligand-based design, docking, molecular dynamics, virtual screening, QSAR, FEP, pharmacophore modeling, and multi-parameter optimization
- verifiedStrong working knowledge of medicinal chemistry principles, SAR interpretation, ADME/PK concepts, and developability
- verifiedPractical experience with cheminformatics platforms, chemical databases, data curation, and visualization tools
- verifiedExperience with AI/ML applications in molecular design including predictive modeling, generative chemistry, and active learning
- verifiedStrong programming or scripting ability, preferably Python, with experience using RDKit and modern data science workflows
Nice to Have
Experience building computational chemistry or cheminformatics capabilities in a biotech or fast-moving discovery organization. Experience implementing user-friendly modeling tools for medicinal chemists. Familiarity with cloud-based or high-performance computing environments. Experience with automated DMTA workflows, electronic lab notebooks, compound management systems, assay-data systems, and integrated discovery platforms. Experience supporting discovery across multiple modalities, such as covalent inhibitors, molecular glues, and degraders. Familiarity with synthetic accessibility prediction, retrosynthesis tools, reaction enumeration, and library design. Strong external scientific reputation through publications, presentations, patents, open-source contributions, or demonstrated project impact.
