About the Role

As a Teacher in the Midland Independent School District, you will serve as a vital catalyst for student growth, fostering intellectual, emotional, physical, and social development. Your mission is to provide learning activities that enable students to develop the competencies and skills necessary to function successfully in society. You will act as a positive role model, upholding the district's mission while creating a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of your students.

The Day-to-Day Experience

Your work will center on developing and implementing curriculum plans that reflect accommodations for individual student differences. You will present subject matter in alignment with Texas Education Agency guidelines and district policies, employing a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs of diverse student groups. Collaboration is key; you will work closely with staff to plan instructional goals, supervise teacher assistants and volunteers, and assist in selecting educational materials.

Beyond the classroom, you will play an active role in the school community. This includes maintaining open lines of communication with parents, participating in faculty meetings and committees, and potentially sponsoring extracurricular activities. You will also contribute to the school's improvement vision and assist in the selection and orientation of new instructional staff. The role requires adaptability, as you may occasionally work after school or weekends and travel to various district facilities.

Equal Opportunity Statement

Midland Independent School District provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment. We prohibit discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws. This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment, including recruiting, hiring, placement, promotion, termination, layoff, recall, transfer, leaves of absence, compensation, and training.

Confidentiality and Ethics

All MISD employees are expected to maintain an extreme degree of confidentiality, strictly adhering to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) for student information and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) for employee and student information. Teachers are also required to observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics.
