Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) is a nationally recognized NCI Designated Cancer Center dedicated to cancer prevention, care, and survivorship for all communities across Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming, with impact felt worldwide. As a Pac-12 school, the University of Utah offers a dynamic environment where administrative professionals play a vital role in the success of our research mission.
The Administrative Grants and Contracts Officers II team within Research Administration works directly with Principal Investigators (PIs) and their labs. We are essential partners in navigating the complexities of pre- and post-award grant support, finance, purchasing, human resources, travel planning, and event coordination. Our team operates at a challenging and rewarding tempo, ensuring compliance and facilitating the routine needs of projects that drive scientific discovery.
This position provides complex administrative support to PIs and shared resource cores, serving as a bridge between researchers and the University's administrative systems. You will work closely with both the Pre-Award and Post-Award Grants and Contracts Officers teams to support the submission of successful applications and the management of funded grants and contracts.
In this role, you will assist PIs with general lab support, including scheduling, purchasing, hiring, travel, and the maintenance of biosketches and other support documents. You will help develop budgets, update financial accounts monthly to ensure accuracy, and maintain complex salary distributions for lab members. Your work ensures that expenditures are compliant and that reporting requirements are met, allowing researchers to focus on their science.
The ideal candidate is someone who intends to stay with us for at least three years, viewing this role as the foundation for a long-term administrative career. You will gain valuable experience and training in a diverse set of tasks, requiring strong organizational capacity, excellent communication skills, and the ability to balance multiple priorities while ensuring follow-through.
HCI is committed to reducing the cancer burden experienced by all people and communities. We invite you to consider how your professional experiences have prepared you to serve as a member of our team. In your cover letter or during the interview process, please share how your background in research, prevention, clinical care, community engagement, training, or administration aligns with our mission to serve the region and the world.
