About the Role
The Governance and Economy Policy Director will lead new and existing SPUR initiatives on charter reform, budget analysis, and procurement in San Francisco, Oakland, and San José. This role exists to advance SPUR's public policy goals by ensuring local governments have the capacity to address pressing challenges, build effective fiscal policies for equitable resource distribution, and support voter education through rigorous ballot analysis.
You will serve as an ambassador to local government staff, elected officials, business and community leaders, and partner organizations. The day-to-day involves setting the agenda for a team of staff and contractors, conducting deep-dive analyses of government structures, and leveraging best practices to drive policy change. You will also lead SPUR's voter guide work, providing in-depth analysis and recommendations for ballot measures at the state, regional, and city levels. This position reports to the Chief Policy Officer and requires a blend of high-level strategic judgment and hands-on project management.
