The General Education Paraeducator (CAT 1) serves as a vital support within the general education curriculum, working directly with students across various grade levels, including kindergarten. This role is designed to foster academic and behavioral success by assisting with instructional activities and reinforcing teacher-directed strategies. Paraeducators play a key part in promoting student engagement and ensuring a safe, inclusive school climate for all learners, including those with 504 plans.
In this position, you will collaborate closely with certified staff to implement accommodations and support individual student needs. Your day will involve a mix of small-group or one-on-one instruction, classroom management, and supervision during specific blocks such as WINN or flex time. You will also assist with classroom organization, monitor student progress, and provide substitute coverage throughout the school as needed, ensuring continuity of care and learning.
This role is primarily based indoors, moving between classrooms and other school areas, though it may include outdoor duties during physical education or recess. The environment can be dynamic, with exposure to varying noise levels and the physical demands of working in close proximity to students. The position requires the ability to lift up to 40 pounds and move unassisted, with reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.
Paraeducators follow the school calendar, including professional development days as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement. The standard work schedule aligns with school operations, typically from 8:45 AM to 3:45 PM. Compensation is hourly, ranging from $21.81 to $27.27 based on experience and the current wage table. The district offers a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, a Town of East Windsor sponsored retirement plan, and a cost-share contribution for health, vision, and dental insurance.
The East Windsor Public Schools is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
