About the Role
As a Freight Handler at FedEx Freight, you will be the backbone of our dock operations, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of goods. This role is critical to maintaining the flow of freight across the dock area and into trailers for loading. You will work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment where precision and safety are paramount.
Your day-to-day involves operating both motorized and manual equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks, to transport freight. You will verify that documentation matches the physical freight, including checking details like type, weight, and hazardous materials. A key part of your responsibility is securing freight inside trailers using appropriate tools like straps and ropes, and handling any necessary repairs for damaged items. You will also serve as a point of contact for customers regarding freight and documentation, and may perform hostling duties as operational needs dictate.
The position requires physical stamina and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a dynamic dock environment. You will be exposed to varied weather conditions, exhaust, fumes, dust, and noise, while frequently lifting and moving heavy loads, including dock plates weighing up to 100 pounds.
