Lynden Transport is seeking a dedicated Freight Handler to join our warehouse and yard operations. In this essential laborer role, you will be the backbone of our logistics chain, responsible for the safe and efficient movement of freight from receipt to distribution.
This position is vital for maintaining the flow of goods in a fast-paced environment. You will work both manually and with heavy machinery, including forklifts ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 lbs, to load and unload trailers. Your day will involve securing cargo with straps, tarps, and ropes, as well as operating lifting devices to stack materials on pallets and skids. Beyond physical labor, you will manage documentation by inspecting shipments against bills of lading, weighing products, and entering data into our computer systems.
Safety is a core priority at Lynden Transport. As a Freight Handler, you are expected to maintain a vigilant eye on the work environment, immediately reporting any safety hazards, injuries, or equipment accidents to your supervisor. Success in this role requires dependable and consistent attendance, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with managers, customers, and the public.
To thrive in this position, you must possess a high school diploma or GED and have the ability to interpret complex documents, including hazardous materials shipping regulations and safety manuals. You should be comfortable working in non-smoking facilities, often in outside weather conditions, and possess the physical capability to lift up to 75 lbs or push/pull freight up to 4,000 lbs using a pallet jack. Strong arithmetic skills and the ability to operate business machines and keyboards are also required.
