The Fire Alarm & Security Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing fire alarm, security, and life safety systems with minimal supervision. Technicians work across diverse environments, from outdoor sites exposed to varying weather conditions to indoor office settings. The position involves a high degree of mobility, with travel required 90% of the time locally. Technicians must be prepared to handle emergency service requests while on-call and maintain company vehicles to strict standards.
A typical day involves diagnosing complex faults in fire alarm systems, including ground faults, and executing repairs or replacements of components such as Fire Alarm Control Panels (FACPs), power supplies, and alarm-initiating devices. Technicians utilize specialized tools like multi-meters, meggers, and programming laptops to service clean agent and high-pressure suppression systems.
Safety is paramount; technicians must strictly adhere to SFS safety programs, handle explosive actuators like squibs and gas cartridges safely, and wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times. The role also includes documenting work orders via Field Service Lightning, communicating professionally with internal teams and external monitoring companies, and mentoring service technician trainees.
Candidates must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and be able to comply with drug, alcohol, and background screening requirements.
