The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) is one of the nation's leading think tanks. Its internship program offers undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in research, writing, business, and communications within a prestigious policy environment.
This internship is based on the AEIdeas blog and focuses on two primary areas: administrative maintenance of the blog and direct support for Senior Fellow James Pethokoukis. Interns will assist with editing and formatting posts, as well as sourcing media such as photos, videos, and charts. Additionally, the role involves supporting Pethokoukis's writing projects and podcast interviews, which includes collecting policy information from journalistic and academic sources, preparing for the Political Economy podcast, and providing editorial assistance for his Substack newsletter, Faster, Please!
This position is designed to deepen your policy knowledge across a variety of subjects while honing your journalistic and editing skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong enthusiasm for public policy pertaining to economic growth and innovation, along with some experience in blogging and editing.
AEI internships run for 12 weeks and require in-person participation in Washington, DC. The fall program dates are either Tuesday, September 8, to Friday, December 4, or Tuesday, September 15, to Friday, December 11. Candidates are encouraged to participate on an in-person basis for 25–40 hours per week.
