The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is dedicated to providing safe, reliable, and efficient public transportation across the region. The Facilities Maintenance team plays a critical role in supporting this mission by ensuring that all physical structures, equipment, and grounds are operational, safe, and ready for service. From bus repair facilities to administrative buildings, the team's work directly impacts the daily experience of millions of riders and the efficiency of the transit network.
As a Facilities Journeyist, you will be the backbone of UTA's infrastructure, utilizing a diverse set of skilled trades to maintain and repair the agency's buildings, machinery, and grounds. This role is designed for a versatile professional who thrives in a dynamic environment where no two days are exactly the same.
Your day-to-day responsibilities involve a blend of hands-on technical work and proactive facility management. You will troubleshoot and repair complex industrial systems, including electrical motor controls, HVAC and refrigeration units, and hydraulic or pneumatic systems. Whether it is fixing a boiler heating system, installing support equipment for a new structure, or performing general maintenance on physical facilities, your expertise ensures that UTA's operations continue without interruption.
The role also requires versatility beyond standard repairs. You will operate a wide range of company vehicles and heavy equipment, including trucks, vans, forklifts, backhoes, and snow removal machinery. During winter months, you may be called upon to perform snow and ice removal at various times, day or night, ensuring that transit routes and facilities remain accessible. The position demands reliability, as regular and predictable attendance is essential to keeping the transit system running smoothly.
Candidates must interview for this position unless they are considered a lateral transfer within the Facilities Maintenance department. The selection process includes a qualifying exam to assess technical proficiency. Successful applicants must demonstrate the ability to pass required DOT card checks and obtain a Class "A" CDL driver's license by the end of the probationary period.
UTA is a drug-free workplace subject to federal drug and alcohol testing regulations. All offers of employment are contingent upon a successful pre-employment drug test, and all safety-sensitive employees are subject to random testing. We value safety above all else and expect all team members to be safe drivers with a clean record.
