The Extended School Year (ESY) program is designed to support students with significant special education needs, helping them maintain the learning progress achieved during the previous academic year. This initiative ensures continuity of education during the summer months, preventing skill regression.
As an ESY Assistant, you will play a vital part in our educational community. This position offers a unique opportunity for college graduates and current students to gain practical classroom experience or explore a career in education. You will work alongside ESY Building Coordinators and teachers to deliver targeted support to students in a structured environment.
The role focuses on maintaining the educational momentum of students who require additional assistance. Your day-to-day work will involve adapting to the specific needs of the students assigned to your team, working within a condensed schedule to maximize learning outcomes.
Selection for ESY positions is conducted by ESY Building Coordinators. Decisions are based on previous experience working with applicants and recommendations from teachers who have collaborated with the students during the regular school year. While we frequently hire college-age graduates and students with appropriate certification, the final selection prioritizes those who best fit the specific needs of our student population.
Candidates must submit all required documentation to the DuPage Regional Office of Education to be considered. Specifically, applicants seeking an Educator License with Stipulations (PARA) must provide proof of meeting one of the following criteria:
