About the Role
The Environmental Services Worker II is the backbone of a safe and welcoming healthcare environment. In this role, you will be responsible for cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining hospital facilities to ensure the highest standards of hygiene for patients, staff, and visitors. Your work directly supports patient safety and regulatory compliance by executing essential tasks such as floor care, waste removal, linen handling, and spill cleanup in strict accordance with hospital policies and infection control standards.
Day in the Life
Your day involves a dynamic mix of independent and team-based work across various hospital zones, including patient rooms, restrooms, hallways, and offices. You will perform detailed floor care tasks—sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, waxing, and shampooing—to maintain safe walking surfaces. A critical part of your responsibility is the safe handling and disposal of waste, including biohazardous and infectious materials, as well as processing soiled linens to ensure proper containment.
You will also be the first line of defense against contamination by responding promptly to spills and performing thorough disinfection. Beyond cleaning, you will monitor supply usage to practice expense control, communicate maintenance needs to the facilities department, and maintain accurate logs of completed tasks. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow complex cleaning schedules, and professional communication when interacting with patients and staff in a fast-paced setting.
