About the Role
The Environmental Analyst serves as a critical support pillar for the NOAA Fisheries Alaska Region, driving the agency's mission to fulfill its responsibilities under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). This position is dedicated to conducting and supporting Section 7 consultations, a vital process designed to evaluate the effects of federal actions on threatened and endangered species and their designated critical habitats.
In this role, you will operate with a high degree of independence to manage moderately complex environmental analyses. The work involves preparing detailed consultation documents and collaborating closely with federal agencies to ensure strict compliance with the ESA and related environmental regulations. You will be at the forefront of assessing impacts from diverse coastal and marine activities, including oil and gas exploration, dredging, harbor construction, pile driving, and military operations. A key component of the position involves interpreting and applying the NMFS Acoustic Criteria to address underwater and airborne sound exposure, ensuring that scientific data is translated into actionable regulatory guidance.
Position Context
This is a remote position, preferably located in Alaska, and is subject to contract award. US citizenship is preferred. The role requires a professional who can navigate the intersection of complex marine ecosystems and federal regulatory frameworks, working effectively with interdisciplinary teams and diverse stakeholders to protect Alaska's unique coastal and marine environments.
