About the Role
This position is designed for an engineer with significant experience in the environmental and solid waste industry. You will be directly responsible for engineering and construction at solid waste disposal facilities, serving as a bridge between technical execution and senior management. Your role involves directing and mentoring junior staff while applying superior problem-solving and management skills to a diverse portfolio of technical projects.
You will be continually challenged to use your knowledge and skills to advance Waste Management's status as the leader and innovator in providing comprehensive waste management services. As a professional representative for the company, you will act as a community liaison at technical conferences and forums, while also serving as the direct line of communication on technical and permitting matters between regulatory agencies and operating sites.
Day in the Life
Your work will span the full lifecycle of landfill construction projects, from overseeing the preparation of construction plans to final approval. You will manage consultants, contractors, and budgets, handling everything from bid documents to contract administration and construction quality assurance. A key part of your day involves coordinating landfill capacity tracking, developing airspace calculations, and working with landfill managers to create efficient fill sequencing plans.
You will also provide continuous evaluation of sites for adherence to construction and permit documents, proactively pursuing required permits or modifications. Beyond site management, you will collaborate with subject matter experts to provide innovative, cost-effective engineering solutions to operational and compliance issues across landfills, transfer stations, and hauling operations. Additionally, you will participate in the review of acquisitions and divestitures, offering technical expertise during due diligence and proforma modeling.
