The Department of Water Supply (DWS) in Hilo is seeking an Energy Management Specialist to serve as the principal resource for energy management issues within the Administration Division. This position is critical to the department's mission of ensuring reliable water delivery while optimizing energy consumption and reducing long-term operational costs.
In this role, you will act as the primary liaison between DWS and electric utilities, coordinating metering, rate structures, and account management. You will lead initiatives to analyze energy consumption patterns, research new technologies for efficiency (such as solar, wind, and SCADA systems), and develop standby generation programs to maintain service during outages. The role involves collaborating with operations personnel to implement on-site tests, reporting to the Water Board on energy expenditures, and participating in strategic growth planning to ensure energy impacts are considered in future projects.
This is an immediate, permanent, full-time vacancy. The eligible list may also be utilized for other permanent and temporary vacancies, with temporary appointments potentially leading to conversion to permanent status.
