About the Role
Pronto is seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer to join our growing team and help expand our autonomous haulage systems. You'll be working on cutting-edge technology that's transforming the mining and heavy equipment industries, implementing robust firmware solutions for some of the most challenging environments on Earth.
We are looking for someone who is comfortable with bare-metal microcontroller firmware, debugging and identifying issues with novel hardware, and ground-up implementation of firmware for circuits in a real-world environment. This role sits at the intersection of hardware and software, requiring a deep understanding of electronics and their physical operation to drive innovation in off-highway vehicle platforms.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circleRead and interpret complex electrical schematics and understand custom PCB functionality
- check_circleCollaborate with engineers to develop comprehensive specifications for new hardware
- check_circleDevelop firmware for custom boards from the ground up based on schematic designs
- check_circleExtend and enhance existing firmware codebases to support new features
- check_circleExamine, document, and develop interfaces for third-party vehicle communications systems
- check_circleImplement firmware for drive-by-wire retrofit systems on new vehicle platforms
- check_circleSupport field installations and troubleshoot hardware and firmware issues at customer sites
Requirements
- verifiedBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- verifiedMinimum 2 years of non-internship experience with embedded systems and real-time control applications
- verifiedProficiency with communication protocols (CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet)
- verifiedExperience with CAN protocol (e.g., J1939, CanOpen) or LIN
- verifiedHands-on experience with electrical hardware implementation, testing, and validation
- verifiedAbility to travel occasionally for field deployments
Nice to Have
Experience with at least one CAN protocol (e.g. J1939, CanOpen) or LIN. Experience in interfacing with off-highway vehicles (such as dozers or skid-steers) or passenger cars.
