About the Team

The City of Colorado Springs is seeking an Electronic Specialist to join the Airport IT & Phones team. This role is critical to maintaining the operational integrity of the Colorado Springs Airport, ensuring that complex electronic systems supporting security, communications, and airfield operations function reliably for millions of travelers.

About the Role

As an Electronic Specialist, you will serve as the technical backbone for a diverse array of critical infrastructure. Your day-to-day work involves the installation, upgrade, maintenance, and calibration of systems ranging from physical access controls and IP-based CCTV to airfield lighting controls, fiber optic communications, and automated vehicle identification (AVI) systems. You will also manage public address systems, fuel dispensing safety mechanisms, and passenger boarding bridges.

This position requires a blend of hands-on technical skill and proactive problem-solving. You will interpret engineering plans and schematics to troubleshoot and repair electronic, electrical-mechanical, and optical equipment. Beyond repairs, you will maintain detailed inspection and status logs, conduct routine service checks, and provide demonstrations on the safe operation of equipment to airport staff. The role demands flexibility, as you must be available for emergency callouts on a rotating basis to address urgent system failures.

Hiring Process & Application Instructions

To apply, visit the City of Colorado Springs Careers page and submit a complete online application via the Government Jobs system. All applicants must create a new login unless they already possess a Government Jobs user ID.

Important Application Guidelines:

  • Ensure your application includes the entire work experience section; incomplete applications may not be considered.
  • You may redact personal information such as age, date of birth, or graduation dates from your resume and transcripts without penalty.
  • The system does not allow edits after submission. If changes are needed, submit a new application before the closing date; Human Resources will review the most recent submission.
  • For specific questions regarding this position, please contact Katie McLaughlin at katie.mclaughlin@coloradosprings.gov.
