The teacher acts as a facilitator of growth, utilizing effective teaching techniques and materials to motivate the desire to learn. Beyond academic instruction, the role focuses on creating a classroom environment that respects the dignity of all staff and students while fostering positive self-image, decision-making skills, and personal-social adjustment. The position requires a balance of instructional expertise and professional responsibility, including the supervision of students, collaboration with colleagues, and active communication with parents and the community.
Success in this role requires a commitment to maintaining a safe, fair, and just classroom environment. The teacher is responsible for developing and implementing reasonable rules of behavior, monitoring student progress, and communicating regularly with families. The role also involves assuming legal responsibility for student supervision on school property and at sponsored activities. Teachers are expected to treat the public courteously, remain alert to safety hazards, and cooperate with staff in planning instructional goals. Additionally, the position may include supervising teacher assistants or volunteers and participating in committee work or student activities as assigned by the principal.
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or higher from an accredited four-year college or university, along with a valid Arizona teacher's certificate for the appropriate grade level and subject matter. Evidence of a comprehensive background in child development, instructional strategies, and learning theory is required. Candidates must also meet North Central Association requirements for their assigned subject area and possess any necessary special area endorsements.
The ideal candidate demonstrates the ability to manage groups of students productively and maintains a positive, solution-oriented approach even in stressful situations. Professional conduct includes maintaining consistent attendance, acting in a businesslike manner, and remaining free from alcohol or illegal drugs while on duty or on district property.
The work environment involves frequent interaction with students and staff, often requiring the teacher to stand, walk, and move around the classroom. The role may involve working in outside weather conditions, exposure to varying temperatures, and moderate noise levels. Physical demands include lifting and moving objects up to 25 pounds and possessing specific vision abilities for close and distance work.
This position reports directly to the Principal and provides supervision to students, teacher aides, student teachers, and volunteers as assigned. Performance is evaluated at least annually by the Principal in accordance with the policy of the Governing Board.
