About the Role

This position offers the opportunity to perform professional teaching work within a structured educational environment. The role focuses on providing a broad range of teaching services and specific learning programs designed to help students develop the essential skills, attitudes, and knowledge required for future learning. Instruction is tailored to each student's ability, utilizing a variety of teaching and learning methods across different levels.\n Reporting directly to the Principal, the teacher operates under limited supervision to foster a supportive and effective learning atmosphere. The position requires a commitment to upholding board policies, district goals, and administrative procedures while maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, equipment, and facilities.

Professional Standards and Mission

The role is grounded in five core standards that define the expectations for leadership, environment, content knowledge, facilitation of learning, and professional reflection.

Leadership and Ethics Teachers are expected to lead in the classroom by taking full responsibility for all students' learning. This includes working collaboratively with school personnel to create a professional learning community and advocating for positive changes in policies and practices. High ethical standards are maintained by upholding the Code of Ethics and Standards for Professional Conduct.

Inclusive Environment A primary mission is to establish a respectful environment for a diverse population of students. This involves creating a climate that is inviting, supportive, and inclusive, while embracing diversity in the school community. Teachers treat students as individuals, maintaining high expectations for all and valuing their unique contributions. Collaboration with families and specialists ensures that teaching is adapted to benefit students with special needs.

Content and Instruction Teachers must demonstrate deep knowledge of the content they teach, aligning instruction with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. This includes understanding the interconnectedness of content areas and incorporating 21st-century life skills into teaching strategically. Instruction is facilitated through a variety of methods, the integration of technology, and the encouragement of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Reflection and Growth The role requires teachers to reflect systematically on their practice, analyzing student learning to drive professional growth. By participating in high-quality professional development and understanding the dynamic nature of the educational environment, teachers ensure their practices remain current and effective.

Qualifications and Licensure

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree from an approved education program in the subject area and have a strong background in the North Carolina Course of Study, Common Core, and Essential Standards. A valid NC Teaching License in the appropriate subject area is required, or the candidate must have the qualifications to obtain one.

Compensation and Schedule

Salary is determined based on the North Carolina Teaching Salary Schedule. The position requires regular and punctual attendance, with the ability to perform non-instructional duties as assigned. Physical requirements include the ability to occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force, as well as the capacity for speaking, hearing, and various physical movements such as sitting, standing, walking, and stooping.
