About the Opportunity
Take your career further with McLane! We are offering a fully paid CDL-A Driver Training Program for candidates in Northfield, MN. This role is designed for individuals ready to learn the essential functions of a Driver job, including the accurate and timely distribution of products to various customer locations. As a Driver Trainee, you will gain exposure to warehouse and other operational functions as part of the developmental process of becoming a professional McLane Driver.
Program Details
McLane is investing in your future by providing a fully paid CDL-A School right here in Northfield. This is your opportunity to start a rewarding career with excellent pay and benefits. The training schedule runs Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, and takes place on-site in Northfield, MN for the final four weeks of the program.
To participate, you must obtain a CDL-A Permit prior to the start of class. While in school and training, the pay rate is $23.50 per hour. Upon completion and as a driver, you can expect average first-year earnings between $80,000 and $90,000, with a minimum guarantee of $65,000 per year.
Day in the Life
As a Driver Trainee, you will train side-by-side with an experienced Driver Trainer to acquire the skills necessary to perform essential job functions. Your day will involve maneuvering a tractor into position to attach a trailer and handling lines to secure it. You will operate the truck in a safe manner, complying with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
You will inspect tractor-trailer equipment for defects before and after trips, submitting DOT inspection reports to indicate the condition of the vehicle. Using the Driver Delivery Handheld (DDH), you will document delivery receipts, product temperatures, and exceptions, while ensuring the trailer is secure for the undamaged transport of product.
A significant portion of your training involves riding with your Driver Trainer to various destinations. During these trips, you will gain knowledge of commercial driving regulations and observe the Driver's skill in starting the engine, approaching intersections, making turns, backing, parking, and maneuvering the vehicle on the road and on customer premises. You will also assist the Driver in unloading the trailer and delivering products into customer premises, maintaining driver logs according to DOT regulations.
