About the Role
Through education and skills development, you will become proficient in operating a straight truck to pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customer locations. This position is designed for individuals ready to master both driving and essential dock operations, including forklift work.
Day in the Life
Your day involves a blend of driving and hands-on logistics. You will operate straight trucks while performing pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections. On the ground, you will handle freight using motorized and manual equipment like forklifts and pallet jacks, securing loads with straps and rope, and repairing damaged items when necessary.
Communication is key; you will follow dispatch instructions regarding delays or equipment issues and interact directly with customers to determine delivery needs and identify potential new business opportunities. You will also handle necessary documentation, verify hazardous material placarding, and collect freight charges.
Working Conditions
This role requires working both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather and on various road conditions. You will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials. The position demands physical activity, including lifting items up to 100 pounds, bending, twisting, and climbing in and out of the truck, as well as the ability to sit for extended periods.
