SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital is a Level 1 Time Critical Diagnosis hospital in Stroke, Trauma, and STEMI, serving as the medical teaching hospital for the Saint Louis University School of Medicine. For over 80 years, the hospital has been at the forefront of groundbreaking medical treatments, procedures, and clinical trials. The institution is exclusively staffed by the SLUCare Physician Group, a partnership that integrates over 740 clinical faculty with SSM Health's community-based providers to deliver seamless, comprehensive care across the region.
This collaboration affords patients improved access to highly specialized procedures and clinical trials while expanding medical education and research opportunities. The Department of Medicine, the largest at the School of Medicine, comprises 11 divisions and 15 graduate medical education programs. The Division of Infectious Diseases operates primarily at the state-of-the-art Saint Louis University Hospital and provides outpatient services at the Center for Specialized Medicine.
The Division boasts a distinguished 35-year history in vaccinology and immunology, ranging from discovery to Phase I-IV clinical trials. This legacy established the internationally recognized Center for Vaccine Development (CVD), which has secured over $150 million in extramural funding and completed more than 100 trials, including dozens focused on pandemic preparedness. The CVD has been a member of the elite, NIH-funded Vaccine and Treatment Evaluation Unit (VTEU) network for three and a half decades.
The Division of Infectious Diseases seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as its next Division Director and the Associate Director of the SLU Center for Vaccine Development. This role combines a 0.2 FTE leadership of the clinical and research mission with a 0.8 FTE commitment to the Center for Vaccine Development, including supported time for individual research.
While a dedicated clinical section chief oversees daily clinical operations, the Division Director will focus on strategic leadership and academic pursuits. The successful candidate will champion the Division's robust programs in infection prevention, antibiotic stewardship, outpatient antibiotic therapy, and HIV care. The role involves fostering collaborative initiatives, building trust among colleagues and institutional partners (including the SSM Health Saint Louis Region and the Saint Louis VA Medical Center), and promoting a culture of excellence in patient care, education, and research.
