The Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Utah School of Medicine is a vibrant and collegial academic environment. As of October 2022, the division includes nine full-time and one adjunct faculty member, two nurse practitioners, one RN, and two infectious disease/stewardship pharmacists on the main campus, alongside an active fellowship program.
Research in the division focuses on infectious disease epidemiology (respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases), antimicrobial stewardship, health services research, value-based care, and the development of diagnostic tests including metagenomics and deep sequencing. We also prioritize improving care for children with cancer and transplants. The division maintains active collaborations with the CDC-funded epicenter, including the University of Utah Hospital, Intermountain Medical Center, the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center, and the CDC, as well as with state and county health departments.
This position offers an outstanding opportunity to join a children's hospital ranked among the best in the U.S. Clinical activities will be carried out at Primary Children's Hospital, a 290-bed facility ranked by U.S. News & World Report, and within the University of Utah and Intermountain Healthcare systems.
The successful candidate will play a major role in the division's well-established Antibiotic Stewardship Program, which is expanding to include pediatric beds in a large, growing affiliated system. A key responsibility involves continuing the development of a novel tele-stewardship program. The role includes clinical consultation on the inpatient service and in the Infectious Diseases Clinic, with ample opportunity to develop an independent research career or focus on quality improvement.
In addition to clinical service, the position expects academic work including investigation, education, administration/service, and advocacy. The selected candidate will receive a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics on the Clinical or Tenure track at an academic level commensurate with experience. The department offers a faculty development and mentoring program designed to foster success in translational or basic research, quality improvement engagement, and excellence as educators.
