Founded in 1836, Alfred University is a Carnegie-class small research university with a rich history of social justice and independent thinking. As the second oldest coeducational college in the United States, we have long been a place for makers, especially those who make the future. Our commitment to creativity, academic rigor, and community has made us a unique leader for nearly two centuries.
Today, AU serves nearly 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students on a 232-acre campus in an idyllic, creative valley in Western New York. We offer a full range of programs in the liberal arts and sciences, art and design, engineering, business, education, and counseling. With over $5 million in annual sponsored research expenditures, our institution remains responsive to the needs of contemporary society while honoring the spirit of its origins.
Reporting to the VP of Business and Finance/CFO, the Director of Sponsored Research Administration serves as the Federal Compliance Officer, institutional grants officer, and authorized official liaison with all granting agencies. This pivotal role oversees both pre-award and post-award services for university personnel participating in sponsored projects, ensuring the integrity and efficiency of our research enterprise.
In this position, you will act as a strategic partner to the Associate Provost for Research, academic deans, and faculty. Your day will involve guiding and mentoring faculty through the grant writing process, identifying appropriate funding sources, and developing institutional policies regarding research misconduct, indirect cost rates, and intellectual property. You will serve as the Authorized Organizational Representative (AOR), responsible for submitting proposals and approving grants, sub-awards, and contracts. Beyond compliance, you will foster a culture of connection and engagement, supporting the university's mission to transform lives through education and research.
Alfred University is dedicated to creating an evolving culture of connection, mentoring, and rich engagement opportunities for all faculty, staff, and students. We maintain a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, welcoming and supporting individuals from a wide range of identities and experiences. We strive to expand access to the AU experience and ensure a safe working environment for everyone.
Alfred University actively subscribes to a policy of equal employment opportunity and will not discriminate against any employee, student, or applicant based on race, age, sex, color, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, physical or mental disability, religion, ancestry, national origin, marital status, genetic information, military or veteran status, domestic violence victim status, criminal conviction status, political affiliation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
