The Director of Fitness leads the health and wellness experience at the Westwood Park branch, reporting to the Senior Director of Wellness. This role is designed to build a team and culture that helps every member set goals, find community, and thrive. The Director oversees personal training, small group training, athlete programming, and wellness floor operations, ensuring that every touchpoint reflects the YMCA mission of building healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
At Westwood Park, this position builds upon a distinctive athletic culture by establishing a sports performance program that serves athletes of all ages alongside the broader membership community. The Director is expected to model servant leadership, fostering an environment of hospitality and professionalism while creating meaningful relationships with members beyond the training floor.
This role blends strategic leadership with hands-on engagement. You will spend time developing and managing the department budget, maintaining facility standards, and collaborating with the Group Exercise Coordinator to ensure a robust schedule of free group offerings. A significant portion of the day involves direct service; the Director is expected to build and maintain up to 15 hours of personal training or small group training.
You will also lead the recruitment and development of trainers, conducting monthly professional development conversations and facilitating team meetings to drive alignment and education. By partnering with local businesses, sports teams, and community groups, you will work to improve the health of the greater Nashua community while championing the member experience through active feedback and service improvement.
Candidates selected for this position will be expected to demonstrate strength in core YMCA leadership competencies, including collaboration, project management, engaging community, inclusion, and developing self and others. The role is designed as an in-person position to support team collaboration, member engagement, and community presence.
The YMCA is dedicated to building healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. We strive to create an environment where all community members feel welcome and valued. This position is a cause-driven leadership opportunity where you will help members become advocates for the Y's cause through volunteerism and philanthropy, ensuring a sense of belonging and connection for everyone who walks through our doors.
