The Director of Federal Policy & Advocacy serves as the strategic architect for Methodist Healthcare Ministries' (MHM) federal and state policy agenda. This role is dedicated to advancing health equity and improving outcomes for underserved communities across the Rio Texas Conference area. By leading public policy strategy, advocacy partnerships, and operational excellence, the Director ensures that MHM's mission translates into tangible systemic change.
The position operates at the intersection of policy, research, and community impact. You will oversee a diverse portfolio of funded advocacy partners, managing everything from contract negotiations to performance monitoring. This is a high-visibility role that requires representing MHM in executive-level convenings with lawmakers, agency representatives, and cross-sector leaders. The Director exercises substantial independent judgment to analyze proposed legislation, determine its impact on the populations served, and recommend strategic policy responses.
A significant portion of the role involves fostering collaboration. You will work closely with executive leadership and Board members to align advocacy strategies with organizational priorities while maintaining frequent interaction with federal and state lawmakers, legislative staff, and community partners. The role also entails direct supervision of departmental staff, guiding them through hiring, development, and performance management to ensure a high-performing team capable of executing complex policy initiatives.
This position demands a dynamic work environment characterized by significant travel. Approximately 50% of your time will be spent traveling, including overnight stays, to attend legislative sessions, engage with stakeholders, and oversee field operations. This travel schedule fluctuates based on legislative cycles and may require availability during evenings, weekends, and holidays. The role is based in an office environment but requires regular in-person engagement in community settings. A valid driver's license and auto liability insurance are required to fulfill these travel obligations.

We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, or veteran status.
