Hammer & NER is dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to live life to its fullest. Our mission is rooted in four core values: Person-Centered, Relational, Opportunistic, and Stewardship. We strive to create meaningful relationships and connections, ensuring every individual has a safe, supportive environment where they can thrive.
As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) serving our West Metro locations (Wayzata, New Hope, Plymouth, St. Louis Park, Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Golden Valley, and Maple Grove), you will be the cornerstone of daily life for the individuals you support. This role goes beyond task completion; it is about fostering independence, dignity, and joy.
You will partner with individuals to navigate their day-to-day lives, assisting with personal care, medication administration, household chores, and community engagement. Whether you are helping someone cook a meal, managing finances, driving to work, or simply enjoying a conversation, your patience, compassion, and integrity will shape their experience. You will also be responsible for advocating for their civil and legal rights, encouraging choice, and adapting to unique situations with good judgment.
The role requires flexibility, as schedules vary to include evenings, weekends, and holidays. You may occasionally be assigned to different programs to meet urgent needs or cover absences. Success in this position demands a strong sense of teamwork, the ability to manage difficult situations calmly, and a commitment to protecting vulnerable adults as a mandated reporter.
Candidates selected for an interview will be expected to complete a comprehensive orientation, which includes mandatory medication administration certification. All new hires must successfully complete annual training requirements, attend assigned meetings, and maintain timely, accurate documentation using our organization's systems. Fluency in English and competence with digital communication tools are essential for daily operations.
Hammer & NER is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds, including those of different abilities, genders, ages, cultures, ethnicities, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, class, and immigrant status. We believe that working with mixed teams enriches our ability to serve our community effectively.
