Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) work directly with individuals who have intellectual or developmental disabilities. The core mission of this role is to help individuals become more integrated into their communities by maximizing their unique strengths, interests, and abilities. The goal is to empower each person to direct their own activities, creating a meaningful life that includes employment, active community citizenship, and the development of lasting relationships.
Support is provided in a variety of settings and involves a holistic approach to daily living. This includes providing personal care, assisting with daily activities, job coaching, and teaching new skills. DSPs act as advocates, helping individuals communicate and express themselves while supporting them in meeting their personal goals. The role requires a flexible mindset, as the environment often changes to meet the specific needs of the individuals being supported, ranging from fast-paced activities to quiet, focused moments.
As a Direct Support Professional, you will positively represent Easterseals Arc of NE IN. Upholding the agency's values and policies is central to the position, ensuring that every interaction honors the dignity and rights of the individuals supported. The role involves maintaining strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, state, and federal laws, while also fostering a positive and productive workplace environment through mentorship and collaboration with colleagues.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver's license with an insured vehicle and a safe driving record, as incidental transportation to community activities is a key part of the job. Applicants must be willing to undergo criminal and registry background checks and commit to completing required trainings, such as CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration, and Positive Behavioral Support Training.
