This position provides comprehensive Medical Nutrition Therapy to inpatients at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, addressing a variety of medical conditions. The role is central to patient care, performing malnutrition assessments, nutrition-focused physical exams, diet education, and delivering nutrition support recommendations. All functions are executed in strict adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and the hospital's philosophy, policies, and standards, while embodying MedStar's "Spirit Values."
The dietitian will collaborate closely with physicians and allied health professionals to evaluate patient nutritional status, determine nutrient needs, and formulate specific diet plans. This involves creating, documenting, and following up on nutrition treatment plans for patients at risk, as well as consulting with outpatients on diet rationale for self-management. The role requires active participation in clinical rounds, department meetings, and cross-coverage across various areas, including the Neonatal ICU and Pediatrics, ensuring flexibility to meet the hospital's dynamic needs.
Beyond direct patient care, this position plays a vital role in professional development and quality improvement. The incumbent is expected to review relevant literature annually, present findings in Journal Club, and deliver case studies or formal presentations to peers and the community. The role also involves developing or updating education materials, policies, or QAPI projects as directed by the Clinical Nutrition Manager. Maintaining current credentials, including CDR and DC licensure, and participating in licensing surveys are essential components of the position.

Three years minimum of progressive clinical nutrition experience AND a Specialty certification recognized by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and/or Commission on Dietetic Registration as a major certification. CNSC - Certified Nutrition Support Clinician Or other specialty certification recognized by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and/or Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
