Interstate Waste Services (IWS) stands as the most progressive and innovative provider of solid waste and recycling services across the greater New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets, featuring a rail-served landfill in Ohio. Since our founding in 1998, we have grown through strategic acquisitions, many of which were family-owned businesses that remain integral to our team today. This unique evolution allows us to combine the robust resources of a large corporation with the enduring values and care of a family-run business.
Our mission is to deliver high-quality waste, recycling, and environmental services while prioritizing the safety of our employees, customers, and communities. We serve a diverse range of industrial, medical, and commercial/residential clients, adapting our solutions to meet their specific needs.
This position serves as a vital support pillar within our maintenance operations, bridging the gap between drivers and our technical teams. You will be instrumental in ensuring the reliability and safety of our heavy-duty and light-duty fleet, which includes rear load, front load, roll-off, grapple, and porta-potty trucks, as well as their chassis and bodies.
Your day will involve active collaboration with drivers to complete daily post-trip and vehicle safety inspections, identifying visible issues such as leaks, body damage, or lighting failures. You will perform essential preventative maintenance tasks, including lubrication, fluid top-ups (oil, hydraulic, transmission, and DEF), and tire inspections. Working alongside A and B technicians, you will assist in basic repairs for engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and electrical systems, utilizing factory service manuals to guide your work.
Beyond the mechanical aspects, you will maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards. This role requires physical stamina to navigate the shop and grounds, frequently entering and exiting commercial vehicle cabs, and working in various weather conditions. You will also be responsible for accurate documentation, including parts usage and time tracking on repair orders, ensuring our records remain timely and concise.
Candidates selected for an interview will be expected to participate in corporation-sponsored training courses to stay current with technology and job requirements. The selection process focuses on identifying individuals who demonstrate high standards of ethics, dependability, and a commitment to safety.
