Interstate Waste Services (IWS) stands as the most progressive and innovative provider of solid waste and recycling services across the greater New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets, featuring a rail-served landfill in Ohio. Since our founding in 1998, we have grown through strategic acquisitions, many of which were family-owned businesses that remain integral parts of our team today. This unique evolution allows us to combine the robust resources of a large corporation with the enduring values and care of a family-run business.
We are committed to delivering high-quality waste, recycling, and environmental services while prioritizing the safety of our employees, customers, and communities. Our diverse client base includes industrial, medical, and commercial/residential sectors, requiring a workforce that is adaptable, safety-conscious, and dedicated to excellence.
This position serves as a vital support pillar within our maintenance operations, bridging the gap between drivers and senior technicians. You will play a key role in ensuring the reliability and safety of our heavy-duty and light-duty fleet, including gasoline, diesel, and CNG systems. Your day-to-day impact is felt through proactive preventative maintenance, safety inspections, and the seamless coordination required to keep our operations running smoothly.
In this role, you will assist drivers with daily post-trip and vehicle safety inspections, conducting thorough safety checks during safety lanes and preventative maintenance (PM) sessions. You will be responsible for lubricating vehicles according to daily schedules, utilizing lubrication charts specific to waste trucks, and performing basic repairs on various equipment types, such as rear load, front load, roll-off, grapple, and porta-potty trucks. Effective communication with A & B technicians and drivers is essential to discuss vehicle issues and implement preventative techniques that minimize future repairs.
Beyond mechanical duties, you will maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards, manage repair order documentation, and utilize factory service manuals for repairs. The role demands physical stamina and the ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to extreme weather conditions during road calls. You will be expected to utilize all mandated Personal Protective Equipment and perform tasks such as lifting, bending, and climbing in and out of commercial vehicle cabs frequently throughout the day.
Candidates selected for this role will be required to attend and participate in corporation-sponsored training courses to ensure they are up to date with current technologies and safety protocols. Reasonable accommodations are available to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
