Interstate Waste Services (IWS) stands as the most progressive and innovative provider of solid waste and recycling services across the greater New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets, featuring a rail-served landfill in Ohio. Since our founding in 1998, we have grown through strategic acquisitions, many of which were family-owned businesses that remain integral to our team today. This unique evolution allows us to combine the robust resources of a large corporation with the enduring values and care of a family-run business.
Our mission is to deliver high-quality waste, recycling, and environmental services while prioritizing the safety of our employees, customers, and communities. We serve a diverse range of industrial, medical, and commercial/residential clients, adapting our solutions to meet their specific needs.
This position serves as a vital support pillar within our maintenance operations, bridging the gap between technical repair and daily fleet readiness. You will be instrumental in ensuring the safety and reliability of our heavy and light-duty trucks, including gasoline, diesel, and CNG systems. Your day will involve active collaboration with drivers and technicians, assisting in the completion of daily post-trip and vehicle safety inspections. You will conduct safety checks during safety lanes and preventative maintenance (PM) sessions, ensuring every vehicle meets our rigorous standards before hitting the road.
Beyond inspections, you will play a hands-on role in maintaining vehicle performance by completing lubrication schedules, supporting basic repairs on chassis and body components, and assisting with fluid top-ups. Effective communication is key; you will work closely with A & B technicians and drivers to discuss vehicle issues and implement preventative techniques that minimize future repairs. Maintaining a clean, safe, and OSHA-compliant work environment is also a core part of your responsibilities, ensuring the shop and grounds remain organized and hazard-free.
Candidates selected for an interview will be guided through a process designed to assess both technical aptitude and cultural fit. While specific steps may vary, the process generally includes an initial screening to verify qualifications, followed by a practical assessment of mechanical knowledge and safety awareness. Successful candidates will then engage in a final interview with the hiring supervisor to discuss team dynamics and role expectations.
