This Detention Officer position is based at the North Lake Processing Center in Michigan. The role is eligible for a Health & Welfare Benefit Rate per hour, up to 40 hours per week, with a total annual cap of 2080 hours. The base rate is $29.00 per hour, plus an additional $4.93 for Health & Welfare benefits.
As a Detention Officer, you will serve as the frontline guardian of facility safety and order. Your primary mission is to oversee and monitor the daily activities of detainees across living, recreation, dining, and visitation areas. You will coordinate detainee movements, conduct regular counts, and provide immediate emergency response when necessary.
The role offers a dynamic day-to-day experience with the potential to be assigned to various posts, including the control room, sally port entrance, health services, special housing, perimeter security, transportation, and intake operations. You will also supervise labor crews and ensure security during program activities. A critical part of your duties involves maintaining a secure environment by conducting shakedowns for contraband, initiating disciplinary reports, and ensuring prompt assistance to detainees in the event of injury, illness, or trauma.
You will be a key member of special teams tasked with responding to emergencies, while also contributing to facility cleanliness and reporting maintenance needs. Success in this role requires the ability to handle the physical and mental stress of extended hours, including shifts of up to 16 hours within a rolling 24-hour period, while maintaining a high tolerance for stress and commanding the respect of both detainees and staff.

College coursework and advanced training in behavioral sciences, correctional services or related field. Training in cultural diversity or sensitivity. Work experience in a correctional setting.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
