As a Deputy in the Pulaski County Sheriff's Detention division, you will serve as the frontline guardian of the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility. This safety-sensitive position is critical to maintaining order, security, and compliance with federal, state, and local statutes within a controlled detention environment. You will be responsible for the direct supervision of inmates, ensuring their custody and control while managing daily facility operations, from housing unit inspections to emergency response.
Your day will involve a dynamic mix of direct inmate interaction, surveillance, and administrative duties. You will conduct regular counts, perform searches for contraband, and enforce facility rules while documenting all activities and incidents. The role requires constant alertness to prevent disruptions such as fights, escapes, or self-harm, and the ability to respond calmly and effectively to emergencies, including riots or combative situations. You will also manage inmate movements for medical visits, court appearances, and work programs, ensuring security is maintained at all times.
This position operates within a high-security detention environment where constant supervision and surveillance are necessary to ensure personal safety and facility integrity. The work schedule is variable, requiring flexibility to work shifts and overtime as needed. The role is physically demanding, often requiring the ability to restrain hostile or combative detainees, climb stairs, and run to emergency scenes. You will also be responsible for the armed transport of inmates to courts, hospitals, and other law enforcement agencies.
