As a Detention Officer (Step 16), you will serve as the frontline guardian of the county jail, dedicated to maintaining the safety, security, and welfare of prisoners. This role is critical to the daily operations of the facility, ensuring a secure and peaceful environment while upholding the dignity of those in custody.
You will work under the direct supervision of Major Brian Blanton, engaging in continuous monitoring of inmate activities throughout the shift. From managing headcounts and processing incoming arrestees to coordinating medical aid and transporting inmates to court or medical facilities, your duties ensure the facility runs smoothly and securely. You will also enforce jail rules, conduct searches for contraband, and operate specialized security equipment to protect both the public and the inmates.
This position requires a unique blend of vigilance and interpersonal skill. You will interact with inmates, their families, attorneys, and the general public, often in high-stress situations. Your ability to enforce regulations firmly yet fairly, coupled with your capacity to remain calm during emergencies, is essential to the mission of the department.
