The department strives to expand comprehensive mental health care at the Elam Mental Health Center while fostering a culture of scholarship, diversity, and professional growth for faculty, staff, students, and residents.
The Department Chair provides the overarching vision and leadership for the department's clinical, academic, research, and administrative operations. This role is pivotal in executing a strategic plan that advances the department's mission while ensuring high-quality patient care and educational excellence. The Chair acts as a leader, innovator, and mentor, working to develop new clinical programs that align with national best practices and community needs.
In this capacity, the Chair will cultivate strong relationships with community-based organizations, local government, and other entities to drive program development. The selection process includes a major periodic review involving a departmental self-review, an internal review by faculty from other departments, and an external review by chairs or eminent scholars from other institutions. Successful candidates will be expected to meet at least once a year with the Dean to review progress and future plans.
The Department of Psychiatry is committed to encouraging and supporting diversity among its constituents. We strive to create an environment defined by professionalism, respect, tolerance, and acceptance.
