The U.S. Navy is launching a unique, limited-time pilot program to integrate civilian Dental Hygienists into the Hospital Corpsman (HM/DH) role. This initiative is designed to fast-track advancement for qualified professionals, allowing them to provide comprehensive clinical care to Sailors, Marines, and their families. The mission focuses on supporting the oral health and readiness of the nation's forces while building clinical excellence in modern dental facilities ranging from state-of-the-art hospitals to afloat facilities aboard aircraft carriers and hospital ships.
As a Hospital Corpsman specializing in Dental Hygiene, you will join a team-based clinical practice that operates with a steady patient flow, free from the production pressures often found in private practice. Your day-to-day will involve a dynamic mix of preventive services, advanced periodontal therapy, radiography, and patient education. You will assess, plan, and deliver therapeutic care under the supervision of a Navy Dental Officer, ensuring the highest standards of infection control and clinical quality assurance.
The role offers a mission-driven schedule that may include early mornings, evenings, and operational deployment support. You will have the opportunity to serve in modern, well-equipped clinics at Navy bases in the U.S. and overseas, with potential assignments to afloat dental facilities. Additionally, the position offers the chance to support humanitarian missions and deliver care in unique environments worldwide.
This pilot program, known as the Direct Procurement Enlistment Program (DPEP), offers specific entry pathways based on your current credentials:
To proceed, candidates must provide a recommendation from their program director and complete interviews with clinical supervisors. All candidates must meet Navy medical, legal, and fitness standards, including normal color perception and vision correctable to 20/20. For the most current details on timelines, locations, and specific incentive offerings, please contact a Navy recruiter.
The Navy is committed to your professional growth, offering advanced training opportunities such as the HM Dental Hygiene Program (NEC L35A) and funding for industry-recognized credentials through the COOL program. This is a temporary pilot program; timelines, locations, and incentive programs are subject to change based on Navy needs. Candidates must maintain all medical and professional readiness requirements, including state licensure as applicable.
The U.S. Navy is an equal opportunity employer. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
