About the Mission

The U.S. Navy is launching a unique, limited-time pilot program to integrate civilian Dental Hygienists directly into the fleet as Hospital Corpsmen specializing in Dental Hygiene (HM/DH). This initiative is designed to fast-track advancement for qualified professionals, allowing you to provide comprehensive clinical care to Sailors, Marines, and their families while supporting the oral health and readiness of our forces.

You will work in a mission-driven environment that spans from state-of-the-art hospitals to afloat facilities aboard aircraft carriers and hospital ships. This role offers a distinct alternative to private practice, featuring a team-based clinical setting with a steady patient flow and no production pressures. Your work will directly impact operational readiness and may include opportunities to support humanitarian missions and deliver care in unique environments worldwide.

The Role in Context

As part of this pilot program, you will serve as a bridge between advanced civilian clinical expertise and military service. You will perform periodontal therapy, interpret radiographs, and deliver critical oral health education, all while upholding the highest standards of infection control. The position is ideal for those seeking a dynamic mix of preventive services and advanced therapy, with a schedule focused on patient readiness rather than commercial metrics.

Hiring Process & Application

To join this exclusive initiative, candidates must navigate specific entry pathways based on their current credentials:

• Licensed Civilian Pathway: Graduates of a CODA-accredited program with a current state license may be eligible to enlist directly at the E-6 paygrade.
• Recent Graduate Pathway: Recent CODA graduates not yet licensed may be eligible to enlist at the E-4 paygrade.
• In-Service Pathway: Current active-duty or Reserve Sailors may apply after meeting specific career milestones.

The selection process includes providing a recommendation from your program director and completing interviews with clinical supervisors. Candidates must also meet all Navy medical, legal, and fitness standards, including normal color perception and vision correctable to 20/20.
