U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) offers an exceptional opportunity to join an elite team of highly trained professionals dedicated to protecting America. As part of the Department of Homeland Security workforce, you will uphold a mission defined by camaraderie, pride, and purpose. Your role is vital to safeguarding our borders, deterring illicit activity, and enhancing the nation's economic prosperity while protecting American interests.
As a Customs and Border Protection Officer (CBPO), you will become a valued member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) profession within a workforce of over 60,000 individuals. This career offers stability, great pay, and the chance to enforce customs, immigration, and agriculture laws. Your daily work involves facilitating legitimate trade and travel while conducting inspections to prevent the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods, such as drugs and contraband.
Selected candidates will undergo rigorous formal training to prepare for this demanding role. The process begins with a paid pre-academy orientation lasting approximately two weeks at your home port. This is followed by a comprehensive 101-day CBP Field Operations Academy at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA. The academy covers basic law enforcement skills, immigration laws, firearms training, cargo examination, and physical fitness. Successful completion of the Academy is mandatory. Additionally, candidates assigned to specific locations, such as the southern border or Miami, must complete and pass an online Spanish training program.
