This position serves as a custodian for a school facility, working 4 hours and 45 minutes per day across a 246-day school year. The role is essential to maintaining a clean, orderly, and secure environment for students and staff. The contract includes health benefits.
The custodian performs routine activities to maintain buildings, locker rooms, and adjacent grounds. Duties include sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, waxing, and polishing floors; vacuuming carpets; and spot cleaning or shampooing rugs. The role involves cleaning classrooms, restrooms, showers, cafeterias, and gymnasiums, as well as disinfecting fixtures like sinks, toilets, and drinking fountains.
Security and safety are key components of the position. The custodian monitors gym events to protect the building, reports safety or fire hazards, and maintains the security of assigned areas by locking doors and managing alarm systems. Additional tasks include minor non-technical repairs, moving furniture for events, operating various cleaning equipment (such as buffers and pressure sprayers), and performing seasonal duties like shoveling snow or sanding walkways.
The work requires significant physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting or carrying medium weights up to 75 pounds. Employees must be able to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing, and work in environments with moving machinery, temperature changes, and potential exposure to dust or fumes. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate as required by Kentucky law. The role requires knowledge of basic custodial methods, materials, and tools, as well as the ability to follow oral and written directions and maintain regular attendance.
