The Tennessee School for the Deaf (TSDK) is seeking a dedicated Lead Custodian to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students and staff. In this position, you will serve as a lead custodian, providing leadership to the custodial team while ensuring the facility meets the highest standards of hygiene and maintenance.
Your day will involve operating a variety of custodial tools and equipment, including floor washing machines, buffers, and vacuums. You will perform essential physical activities such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and buffing floors by hand or machine. Your responsibilities extend to thoroughly cleaning restrooms by sanitizing showers, toilets, sinks, walls, and mirrors, as well as emptying trash. You will also maintain offices, classrooms, and other facilities by dusting furniture, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, washing walls and windows, and straightening work areas. Additionally, you will patrol grounds to pick up trash and identify maintenance needs.
As a lead, you will train new custodial workers, keep simple records, and make routine reports regarding facility deficiencies and material needs. You will also perform light maintenance on the equipment you utilize.
Selected applicants will be required to submit to and pass a TBI/FBI background check and fingerprinting. This includes Tennessee and Federal criminal history checks, child abuse records, employment verification, and professional or personal reference checks. Please note that due to the position being at a school, any discrepancies in the background check or fingerprinting report will result in disqualification from consideration.
