The CT Technologist is a vital member of the diagnostic imaging team, operating computed tomography (CT) scanners to capture high-quality images essential for diagnosing injuries, infections, cancers, and other medical conditions. This role exists to bridge the gap between advanced technology and patient care, ensuring that physicians receive precise diagnostic data while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and comfort.
In this position, you will be the primary point of contact for patients undergoing CT procedures. Your day involves preparing patients by explaining the process, verifying medical histories, and positioning them for optimal imaging. You will operate complex CT equipment, calibrate settings for radiation dose and slice thickness, and administer contrast agents under physician guidance. Beyond technical operation, you are responsible for reviewing image quality in real-time, collaborating with radiologists to ensure diagnostic accuracy, and managing patient flow to provide timely results.
Patient safety is paramount. You will rigorously follow radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure, maintain a sterile environment, and monitor patients for adverse reactions to contrast media. Whether assisting a patient with mobility challenges or addressing fears of radiation and claustrophobia, your role requires a blend of technical expertise and compassionate communication.
As technology evolves, so does the need for continuous learning. This role requires active participation in continuing education to stay current with advancements in CT imaging, new protocols, and safety procedures. You will maintain professional certification and licensure, ensuring compliance with industry standards such as HIPAA, Joint Commission guidelines, and radiation safety regulations. By documenting procedures accurately in electronic health records and participating in team care planning, you contribute to a culture of excellence and safety within the healthcare facility.
