About the Role

As a Registered Nurse, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care on a specialized nursing unit according to established policies and procedures. You will provide supervision to non-RN personnel and, when assuming the charge role, delegate and supervise unit activities. This role requires flexibility to work on other nursing units as needed to support staff and patient distribution.

You will function as a vital member of the healthcare team, collaborating with physicians and families to develop and communicate individualized plans of care. Your day-to-day responsibilities include ongoing patient assessment, coordinating care interventions, evaluating patient responses, and providing essential education to patients and families. You will also serve as a preceptor to new staff and demonstrate specialized competency in neuro and cardiac care, including airway management, tracheostomy care, and the use of advanced life support devices.

Our Specialized Units

We offer opportunities across several high-acuity environments within our Heart and Vascular and Cardiothoracic departments:

• Cardiac ICU (5-1 SP): A fast-paced, 14-bed critical care unit caring for adult patients with complex cardiac and medical diagnoses, including myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, and heart failure. Our team is trained in advanced heart failure management, including mechanical circulatory support devices like intra-aortic balloon pumps, Impella catheters, and LVADs.
• Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU/WP3): An 18-bed unit specializing in complex post-operative care for CABG, valve replacements, aortic dissection repairs, heart transplants, and LVAD implantation. This is the only unit in the YNHH health system that cares for patients requiring ECMO (VV or VA bypass), as well as those needing IABP, Impella/VADs, and CRRT.
• Cardiovascular ICU and Stepdown (5-4 SP): A 14-bed hybrid unit featuring 8 ICU beds and 6 stepdown beds. We specialize in post-operative care for complex vascular surgeries (such as aortic repairs) and cardiac surgeries (CABG and valve replacements), alongside managing patients with complex heart and vascular diagnoses in the stepdown area.
