The Crisis Response Specialist serves as a critical first responder for mental health emergencies across West Texas. Reporting to the MH Division in Alpine, this role is dedicated to providing immediate, compassionate intervention for individuals facing acute mental health crises. You will be the bridge between Law Enforcement, Emergency Rooms, and the PermiaCare Crisis Hotline, ensuring that every person in crisis is treated in the least restrictive and most appropriate environment possible.
This position is designed for a self-starter who can work independently under limited supervision. Your day will involve responding to high-stakes situations by phone within 10 minutes and making face-to-face interventions within an hour when necessary. You will assess presenting concerns, initiate crisis intervention services, and facilitate entry into crisis respite facilities. Beyond immediate response, you will build and maintain vital relationships with law enforcement, hospital personnel, and the judiciary to ensure a coordinated care network.
The role requires a unique commitment to community service, often working in adverse weather conditions and traveling to various counties. You will operate on a 5 days on, 5 days off rotation, covering days, nights, weekends, and holidays. While duty time can be served from your chosen location, you must remain in the area at all times while on call to ensure rapid response capabilities.
You will be part of the PermiaCare Crisis Services team, working collaboratively to ensure quality and appropriate use of services for persons in crisis. The team operates with a trauma-informed approach, prioritizing the dignity and safety of individuals served. Success in this role depends on your ability to coordinate with diverse inter-agency personnel and maintain a spirit of teamwork while managing a caseload of individuals with mental illness.
Candidates selected for this position must successfully pass a criminal history and background check, as well as a pre-employment drug screen. Upon hiring, you will be required to obtain QMHP certification within six months. The role involves regular participation in quality assurance and utilization review processes, as well as team meetings and staffings to ensure continuous improvement in service delivery.
