Founded in 1876, the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) is America's oldest conservation and recreation organization. We promote the enjoyment and understanding of the mountains, forests, waters, and trails of America's Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions from Maine to Washington, D.C. We believe these resources have intrinsic worth and provide recreational opportunities, spiritual renewal, and ecological and economic health for the region. Because successful conservation depends on active engagement with the outdoors, we encourage people to experience, learn about, and appreciate the natural world.
The Corman Harriman Outdoor Center Manager serves as the operational leader for The Stephen & Betsy Corman Harriman Outdoor Center (CHOC), a popular destination for hiking, paddling, and camping in the heart of Harriman State Park at Breakneck Pond. Located just 30 miles from Manhattan and accessible by public transportation, this facility is a vital hub for responsible outdoor recreation, education, and conservation.
In this full-time, year-round role, you will ensure the facility operates safely and efficiently while fostering a friendly atmosphere for all guests. Your day-to-day involves leading a diverse team, managing financial and operational logistics, and serving as the primary liaison across AMC departments. You will also oversee meal delivery, retail sales, and membership promotion, ensuring every guest interaction aligns with the AMC mission. The position requires a unique blend of hospitality management and outdoor stewardship, with a schedule that shifts between the Corman Harriman Outdoor Center (March–November) and the Mohican Outdoor Center (December–February). Living in a shared staff cabin at the center is the preferred option to support the 24/7 nature of the camp during open months.
