The Division of Student Affairs at Stony Brook University is a student-focused organization dedicated to empowering student success and supporting personal development. We act daily to create, enhance, and sustain a culture of respect and inclusion, focusing on equity and justice in its many forms, including racial, social, and environmental justice. We intentionally pursue excellence through introspection, vulnerability, empathy, compassion, learning, and courage.
We are proud to be named one of the "Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs" by Diverse Magazine. As the #1 ranked institution in the AAU and #3 nationally in fostering social mobility, we serve a highly diverse student body and have received multiple distinctions for our work in experiential learning, career development, voter engagement, and residential life quality.
As an integral part of the Division of Student Affairs, the Coordinator for Student Engagement and Activities serves a vital role in creating and maintaining a vibrant campus life. Reporting to an Assistant Director, you will help enhance the educational experience of Stony Brook students by facilitating their development, exposure to, and engagement with programs, events, organizations, and other opportunities.
Your day will involve directly supporting the administration, advising, training, and leadership development of student organizations, their leaders, and advisors. You will manage space scheduling, event planning, and risk management while assisting with an advising model that is responsive to student needs. This role requires a collaborative approach to problem-solving, balancing independent work with team efforts to support major programming, student staff supervision, and departmental marketing.
